ED Drugs: Side-Effects

The Secret Side-Effect of Erectile-Dysfunction Drugs

During my long career as a health professional, I have always been amazed at the ability of women to discuss their symptoms, pains and aches no matter where they are and no matter how embarrassing they may be; from chronic constipation to hot flashes and night sweats and even vaginal dryness and intercourse issues.
Men, on the other hand are just the opposite. They may discuss external joint pain if it’s related to a sports injury or some macho event that caused it but when it comes to other symptoms they are stoically silent. They will suffer internal pain, chronic insomnia or constipation, urinary problems and sexual dysfunction problems and rarely talk about them. They are reluctant to seek treatment and have to be pushed into the physician’s office. That is why women nearly always outlive their man.
For that reason if you look up all the side-effects of erectile-dysfunction drugs, one of the most problematic is not even on the list—the failure to ejaculate. Many men, even when they are in private consultation with a male physician and just getting a repeat of these drugs will not discuss this terrible side-effect.
Not only can this cause a great deal of discomfort to the man’s penis because the erection is so prolonged but this can be very irritating to his partner’s vagina because intercourse is taking much too long. So why does this happen?
Under normal circumstances as intercourse progresses, the penis becomes engorged with blood. As the stimulation increases, so does the blood flow until a maximum is reached at which point the male has an orgasm which results in ejaculated semen. In a perfect world, the female’s clitoris also becomes engorged with blood and they both orgasm simultaneously. However, once you use the prescription drugs, things change.
First of all drugs such as Viagra, Cialis and Levitra by themselves will not cause an erection or stimulate sexual appetites. The penis must be physically stimulated for them to work. The problem is that the enhanced blood flow to the penis by the drugs is very quick and enlarges the penis to its maximum. In normal intercourse, without drugs, the buildup to the penis is slow and as the stimulation increases so does the blood flow until the maximum is reached and ejaculation results. With the drugs there is no buildup, maximum has been reached and this makes it more difficult to achieve orgasm. This means that intercourse may take much longer resulting in pain to both partners, and possibly the use of a great deal of lubricant.
Of course, it is the women who actually complain and are not afraid to discuss this intimate problem. Apparently since these drugs were introduced, the phrase “Are you finished yet” has been uttered too many times in the matrimonial bed. So what can be done to counter this side-effect?
In the first place if you are a man taking these drugs, you are probably taking the maximum strength because that is just what men do. You must now reconsider and take the lowest strength available and you will find that it works just as well. If you still have the problem, buy yourself a pill-cutter from the pharmacy and cut your tablet into halves. This will allow the drug to enhance your erection rather than taking it over. Not only will this save you money but it will enhance your sexual experience.
Most of the supplements in the health food store will not stimulate the blood flow to the penis. They will however increase testosterone levels and increase the interest and desire to be sexually active. These supplements are Tribulis, Maca, Horney Goat Weed and Acetyl-L-Carnitine. The only exception, a combination of Co Q10 200mg along with 500mg of Acetyl-L-Carnitine will temporarily increase blood flow to the penis but for a very short period of time and may help with erectile dysfunction. However, if you are man taking prescription drugs for high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes or anti-depressants, you will need the prescription variety stimulants.
Of course if you eat healthy foods and maintain a proper diet, exercise regularly and take a high potency B Vitamin Complex, Carnitine and Co Q 10 you should have no problem maintaining an erection and satisfying both you and your partner.
